Many of you will already be familiar with my story, but what you probably don't know about is the amazing support Eva and I received from Mummy's Wish after I was diagnosed.
Mummy's Wish provides tailored and practical support for mums diagnosed with cancer who have young children—anywhere in Australia and at any stage of their cancer experience. They help manage the distressing burden of cancer on mums and their families by offering care packs, recordable comfort bears, educational books, counselling sessions and financial support where needed.
One of Eva's most treasured possessions is still her "Mumma's voice teddy bear", and this was the greatest gift for both of us. I could take comfort in knowing she had it with her for all the time she was away from me (when I finally stopped crying long enough to actually record a message) and she could press the little heart and hear me talking to her so she didn't miss me too much.
Mummy's Wish doesn't have the high profile of many other charities, and I want to take this opportunity to give back by accepting donations in lieu of gifts for my birthday.
