Hair we go again!

By Amelia Bath

I'm supporting Mummy's Wish by cutting my hair off to donate to a children's wigmaker.

Please help me make a difference by giving anything you can.

The wigmaker is located in Richmond, Victoria, and was recently on the news due to a robbery where a thief stole $20,000 worth of wigs.

Those wigs were custom made for children fighting cancer and made with real hair, and need hair donations to be remade.

I have been eagerly preparing to donate my hair, growing it for 3 years without dying it, no heat treating it and only dolling it up with hair spray or pins for very special occasions.

I was looking for the right time to join a charity and make the cut, when I saw the news and realised the time was now.

So why did I choose to raise funds for Mummy's Wish along the way?

Mummy's Wish 'provides tailored and practical support for mums diagnosed with cancer who have young children—anywhere in Australia and at any stage of their cancer experience'.

I know what their help means first hand. I know that they really make a direct difference to Mum's fighting cancer.

The 2 biggest ways Mummy's Wish helped us, were with vouchers for groceries to make something so simple and tricky, a relief to not worry about.

And with their precious bears.

The Mummy's Wish bears can record a Mum's voice, a simple short message that kids can hear when they cuddle their teddy.

This absolutely precious item, meant while I was in hospital, my scared and confused children could hear me sing their individual special songs to sleep over and over again.

For some families, these bears become an extremely important item, if their mother sadly does not win the dreadful fight against cancer.

Mummy's Wish can also help ease the distressing burden of cancer on mums and their families by offering care packs, educational books, counselling sessions and financial support where needed.

Your donation will help give the gift of time to mums with cancer so they can focus on what's most important – being a mum and getting well.

Thank you for your support and generosity.

Saturday's self-check check-in!

Saturday 18th Oct
After a delightful brunch, I was somehow reminded to do a self-check when I got home. Being a supporter of cancer awareness, I cooked up the idea to add a post here to remind others to check themselves too. Make sure you are familiar with eggsactly what is or isn't normal for you, if you find anything isn't quite the sunny-side up you're used to, go and grill your doctor with some questions. And if you find everything is in order, check in with a fry-end and encourage them to check themselves over too and get up to date with any routine eggsaminations necessary. Even if you and your friend are in perfect health, you never know who you could encourage to get answers to any burning questions they have. If you're not sure how to poach the subject, may I recommend a fun catch up over brunch? ...Please don't crack it over my puns, no one needs to benedict to each other! Omelette you in on a secret, it's all just a bit of fun for a great cause <3 Take care all xx

The fun of a fringe

Friday 17th Oct
Oh the fun of a fringe. It's such a simple thing to take for granted. A fringe or 'bangs' has a very handy skillset for a wide range of moments in life. Covering up a pimple. To frame the classic move of averting your eyes under, then softly flicking back up, to catch the eye of a cutie across the room. Merginh with a bad eyebrow wax to pretend that was the look you were actually going for. Obscuring a forehead that could double as a home projector screen for family movie night. Getting sweaty in summer and flicking into your eyes at awkward times. Yes, fringes are plenty of fun if you've got one. I often have a side part sweeping fringe but that changes all the time. I haven't had one properly cut in a very long time now, but it certainly loved to join the fun wherever it could. Now I'm ready to farewell the fringe and snip off my hair for the greater good. But fear not fringe hairs! Even if you don't make the cut for team wig (which who knows, maybe you will) you've been a valuable asset to the front of house operations these last few years. Enough of me banging on about a hairstyle, I don't want anyone getting my vanity tangled with my desire to help out charity! If you get amused by my hair-larious puns and notes to and from my hair, buckle up and check back for a (pony) tail or 2 in the days ahead. Feel free to share, or split if it's not your style! But please, do consider supporting the wonderful work Mummy's Wish does by donating, sharing, or even have a think about donating hair* in future. *Preferably donating your own hair and not just swiping the ponytail off the person talking loudly on their phone on the bus. Take care all, and thanks for flicking through this post!
