Welcome to your June Mummy's Wish update! We'd love to keep you up-to-date each month with what's happening in our community.
It's been a busy time for Mummy's Wish, with 92 mums registering for our service in May alone - equivalent to about three every single day. When a mum with cancer reaches out to us, we provide practical support like helping pay for cleaning or healthy cooked meals, as well as someone to listen and connect mums with other services. We also send out a care pack to each new mum who registers with us, including information, books and our much-loved Comfort Bears with recordable hearts.
Last month, we were lucky to welcome some wonderful volunteers to our Bowral office as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award. The team have been busy stuffing bears, compiling care packs and addressing packages ready to go out to families.
News
We’ve recently had some incredible fundraising activities happening out and about in the community.
Bubuland Home Shop for a Cause
Beautiful homewares store Bubuland Home, based in Bayswater, Victoria, donated 6% of proceeds from Mother’s Day until the end of May to Mummy’s Wish, as part of their Shop for a Cause campaign.
The campaign raised more than $1,500 for Mummy’s Wish. Thank you for choosing us as your beneficiary.
Woolies Wheels 'n' Walks for Tour de Cure
About 170 people joined the Woolies Wheels n Walks event as part of Tour de Cure in Melbourne recently, fundraising and taking on either a 10km or 21km walk.
We were grateful to attend the event and share a little of the Mummy’s Wish story, and accepted a cheque for $10,000.
Fundraising high tea in Queensland
A team of 14 organisers and 80 guests raised about $9,000 for Mummy's Wish at a high tea in North Ipswich at the weekend. Funds were raised through ticket sales, raffles and auction items, while the organiser's children shared their own memories of their mum's experience with breast cancer in a heartfelt speech.
Dry July is coming
This year, Mummy’s Wish is once again a beneficiary of Dry July, so you can choose for your fundraising to directly help mums with cancer.
Registration is FREE and you can sign up as an individual or create a team.
In addition to the health benefits of taking a break from alcohol, you can have some fun along the way:
☕get creative in the ways you catch up with friends – head to a yoga class together, switch dinner and wine plans for coffee and brunch, or whip out the board games instead of Friday night drinks
🍍invent your own mocktails for a fancy night in that could taste even better than the alcoholic version (and without the headache the next day!)
💰save the cash you would otherwise spend on alcohol to treat yourself to something special at the end of the month – think a pamper day, a coffee machine, or even a new book and a block of chocolate to help you find some ‘me time’.
Best of all, when you spread the word about your Dry July efforts, you can also share your experiences with Mummy’s Wish, and why you believe it’s important to fundraise for us - helping us reach more mums who need some extra support when facing cancer.
Share your story
Share your story with our community
You can help other mums with cancer to feel connected and understood by sharing your story. Motherhood isn't always easy, and juggling mum life with the cancer treatment, emotions and side effects adds another level of complexity.
By sharing your story, you can offer tips and advice that helped you, as well as show other mums they're not alone, what they're feeling is normal, and there are people who understand. Sometimes, telling your story can be quite cathartic too!
Stories are published on the Mummy's Wish website and may also be shared in our upcoming newsletters or on social media. If you'd like to chat more, please send us an email and we can start the conversation.
We'd love to hear from you!
