We’re continuing to work hard providing practical support for mums with cancer.
During June, we’ve welcomed two large volunteer groups from the pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca, to our office. They’ve been busily stuffing Comfort Bears to be sent out to the children of mums diagnosed with cancer – with plenty of friendly competition along the way! A huge thank you to these wonderful volunteers who have filled bears with stuffing, recordable hearts and even a test hug or two so they go out to families with a little extra love. 🥰
This week has also signalled the start of Dry July. We’re excited to have more than 400 people signed up to go alcohol-free this month to raise funds that will help us continue providing care packs and Comfort Bears to families. You can still sign up to join the challenge, or make a donation to Mummy’s Wish or one of our generous participants!
Thank you to everyone supporting Mummy’s Wish through fundraising activities, following us on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn, or sharing our social content. Your support helps us raise awareness and ensure more mums can find us when they need us.
Warm regards,
The Mummy’s Wish team
News
We couldn't do what we do without the incredible support from our community. Thank you to all the people and organisations who choose to fundraise for us.
Kylie's Comeback Party
Kylie is back, baby! 💃
Decked out in sparkles and tearing up the dance floor, Kylie hosted the party of a lifetime recently, raising funds for Mummy’s Wish and celebrating her comeback from cancer.
Through raffles, auctions and ticket sales, Kylie raised an incredible $7,371 for Mummy’s Wish.
Grill'd Local Matters
We were recently the beneficiary of Grill’d Local Matters funds from Grill’d Ascot.
These funds are distributed based on a community vote, so a big thank you to everyone who ordered from Grill’d in Ascot and voted for Mummy’s Wish. We received $300 which will go straight to our bears and care packs.
Quota Carindale
A big thank you to the Carindale branch of Quota International. Quota Carindale is a service organisation that holds numerous fundraising activities throughout the year, with funds divided between a number of local charities.
Mummy’s Wish was grateful to receive $500 from these wonderful efforts.
Meet our mums
Beki's Story
When she was diagnosed with cancer, Beki had never spent more than about 18 hours away from her two-year-old son, Lucas. Although surgery was an important step in Beki’s road to recovery, she’d had a difficult birth with Lucas and the thought of being away from him, and her 12-year-old daughter, added to the anxiety. Connecting with Mummy’s Wish helped Beki meet other mums in our Facebook Group, where she found her feelings of fear, frustration and isolation were normal. She’s also learnt to ask for help, having long chats with a Mummy’s Wish coordinator and leaning into her village of friends and her partner’s family. She’s also grateful for the care pack and the cuddly bears sent to her children so she could record messages for them while she was in hospital. |
