August 2024 Newsletter

11 Aug 2024

Wow! Dry July is over and we’re so excited to have smashed our fundraising goal!

Mummy’s Wish is currently sitting at more than $90,000 in funds raised throughout Dry July. More than 400 people signed up to go dry and support us, and we’re so grateful to all of you and to everyone who helped make a difference – whether that was through donations or moral support!

Money raised through Dry July will go straight towards supporting mums who have been diagnosed with cancer. Your support means we can:

📚 send out tailored care packs including books and information

🧸 distribute our recordable Comfort Bears to children aged under 13

🧹 provide practical support, like cleaning or grocery vouchers

🤝 connect mums through our Facebook Group

👂 offer a listening ear when mums need someone to talk to throughout their cancer experience.

Fundraising pages are still live, so you can still make a donation to any of our Dry July participants.

As we strive to support even more mums with cancer, we’re grateful to everyone in our community who supports us.

Warm regards,

The Mummy’s Wish team

News

We couldn't do what we do without the incredible support from our community. Thank you to all the people and organisations who choose to fundraise for us.

Mel's Big Red Ball

The countdown is on to the Big Red Ball at Magnetic Island tonight! Celebrating the life of Melissa Landon, the Big Red Ball will include entertainment, dancing, silent auctions, raffles, and even a Little Red Ball to keep the kids entertained. Mummy’s Wish is grateful to be one of the beneficiaries of this event.

The Big Hug Box

We’re proud to have been chosen as the winter beneficiary from the Big Hug Box. The Big Hug Box sells gift hampers for people facing cancer, and each season, a percentage of sales is donated to a chosen charity. Thank you to the Big Hug Box for raising awareness and supporting our work this winter.

Meet our mums

Meet Rhiannon

When Rhiannon walks into a cancer clinic, she often feels she’s much younger than everyone else there – often by “a couple of decades”.

But cancer can affect anyone, and Rhiannon was diagnosed with hormone-positive breast cancer only a few days before her 33rd birthday – and just before Christmas.

Busily preparing for the festive season with her husband and energetic one-year-old son, Lennox, Rhiannon found a lump in her breast during a routine self-check.

She’s since had chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, and is having ongoing treatment, including medications to keep her in menopause.

Through Mummy’s Wish, Rhiannon received a care pack including information, books and a bear for Lennox, plus a grocery voucher to help with all the mounting expenses when she was first diagnosed.

She’s also been able to connect with other young mums with cancer, who can better understand her experiences.
