Can you help grant a Mummy's Wish? We urgently need your support.
Mummy's Wish helps 70 Mums every month with practical help, support and a little light during the darkest time of their lives. This is a commitment we don't take lightly and we need to be able to help other mums who are struggling too.
We want to be able to say YES to every mum that needs us, but recently we haven't been able to provide our services to every mum who has come to us which breaks our heart.
To be able to provide this care for more mums we need to raise $60,000 by 30 June.
We are always aware that although what we can do sometimes feel so small, it makes such a huge difference to our mums. Mums like Mel, from Perth WA...
Mel was put in touch with Mummy's Wish through the hospital where she is being treated.
"Just when I was feeling low, when I'd been told that I had a really rare and difficult to treat cancer, my care package arrived. I can't tell you how much it lifted my spirits. It truly was a lifeline in a very dark time for me.
The package included two teddy bears - the bears are very special because I can record a message on them - one for each of my girls. Sometimes I have to go into hospital for several days and the girls have to stay with their grandparents. The bears mean that I can still be there for them.
I've got two gorgeous little girls and, like every mum, I want to be here to see them grow up."
Mel is about to undergo a double mastectomy, having had many gruelling rounds of chemo. She will return home sore, tired and in pain. Mummy's Wish will be there for her. We will arrange to clean the house, make some family meals or sort taxi vouchers.
These may sound like little things, but to a mummy like Mel, all these little things can provide a huge relief and mean that she has more time with her girls.
Meet Alison - Mel's Support Coordinator
Alison Harris is the Mummy's Wish coordinator that works with Mel. She used to be a nurse and decided to take on a coordinator role because it felt like such a real and direct way of helping people who need it right now.
Alison says that many of the mums that she works with simply don't know how to ask for help and are overwhelmed by the decisions that they have to make in a short space of time.
"I don't think people know where to start looking for help - or how. Then they speak to a coordinator here, and they know we get it. We understand. We're mums ourselves and we understand some of the challenges that they're facing at the moment - some of the practical, difficult things that they're trying to sort out and deal with.
So, the family that I spoke to this morning, well, they don't even know where to start looking for childcare for their two-and-a-half-year-old. They've not needed to put their little one into childcare but all of a sudden, you know, mum's going to be having radiotherapy and she's going to need to be at hospital which is 30 kilometres away, for five days a week for five weeks. She can't take a two-and-a-half-year-old with her, so how's she going to find childcare? I know that I can point her in the right direction and help her through that process."
