Tips for TREATMENT
Here is a list of tips I have for undergoing chemotherapy. They might not work for everyone but they are worth trying! · For nausea—Zooper Doopers—those frozen iceblocks that you can buy in the desserts aisle of the super market. I lived on these through treatment as they always eased the nausea a little. I remember sucking away on them at 2am in the morning in the middle of winter with the blankets wrapped around my head! · For diarrhea—Wiggles Wipes—ditch standard toilet paper and use soft, moist wiggles wipes instead. They are better than the adult equivalents as they are smaller and smell nicer and if you have a pack in your handbag you can always say they are for your child! · For keeping up your spirits whilst in hospital and to help with eating when you don’t feel like it —have tea parties with your children and girls nights with your friends. For the tea parties get your kids to visit with a plastic tea set and some little treats. It will be great fun for all of you. For the girls nights, gather a few friends together, order in some take away to the hospital and get them to bring in some chocolates and have a great night eating and chatting. · To save boredom whilst undergoing treatment or whilst in hospital—Get yourself a laptop with some internet access (more to come on the options available) · Always take a packed bag to any treatment and specialist appointments and when you do go into hospital pack for at least a night more than you plan on staying · For trying to eat—get friends and family to make extras of favourite meals and freeze them and bring them into hospital. You will probably be able to keep them in the freezer on the ward and have a treat every now and then · For the memory loss from chemo—keep a little notebook on you at all times. Write down things you want to ask your doctors and keep notes when they talk to you.
I will add more to the list but if you have any tips you would like to share, please email me bernadette@mummyswish.org.au and I will add them to the list
